I Love Telling Stories Through Photos
About Me
I’m Adam. 16 years ago I stopped by my friend’s house to meet their newborn son. We took photos of them holding up the baby, but it was afterwards — when they thought I was done shooting — that things really caught my eye: a quiet smile between mother and child, the baby yawning in his father’s arms. These were the shots they wound up wanting.
Another family saw those photos and asked me to photograph their daughters. They were feeling shy so I took the same approach. Make them feel the shoot is already over — there’s nothing they have to do. Soon they forgot the camera was there and were just themselves. And that’s how I discovered my style. I’ve been doing family photography for the past 16 years in New York City and recently located to Northern Virginia.
Some favorite moments:
• The girl who opened the door and gave me the perfect smile in the first five seconds. • A family that filled an entire wall of their home with photos I had taken over ten years. • The boy who kept climbing the rocks after being told not to, then looked down and said “but Mom, I was made for this!” • A girl who drew me a thank you card for her photos. • The boy who was shy for 45 minutes before finally opening up — and then cried when it was time to go.
